CORONERS ACT 1997 IN THE CORONERS COURT AT CANBERRA IN THE AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY FINDINGS An INQUEST having been held by me, GLENN SASHA THEAKSTON, a Coroner for the Territory, including a hearing conducted at the Coroner’s Court at Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory into the death of:
ANGELA PARRAGI I find that: Angela Parragi died on 6 August 2019 at the Canberra Hospital, Yamba Drive, Garran in the Australian Capital Territory.
The manner and cause of Ms Parragi’s death was complications of anorexia nervosa.
Police have advised that there are no suspicious circumstances.
No matter of public safety arises in this matter.
There is no basis under section 74 that the quality of care, treatment or supervision of Ms Parragi under her Community Care Order contributed to the cause of her death.
However, in accordance with the expert report of Professor Large, and noting the recent work done and intended to be done by ACT Government in this space, I recommend that ACT Health explore with NSW Health ways of improving access, and pathways, to inpatient specialist public beds for ACT patients with severe eating disorders, where necessary.
DATED September 2020
G.S. THEAKSTON CORONER
