AI-generated summary

This case involves an adult male whose body was never recovered. Based on documentary evidence including a suicide note and detailed planning documentation, the coroner concluded he died by self-inflicted means on or shortly after 7 March 2015 near a property in regional NSW. While a gunshot wound is suspected, the exact method cannot be confirmed without the body. The case demonstrates the challenges coroners face in determining cause of death when remains are not recovered. No clinical interventions or medical care were involved in this death.

STATE CORONER’S COURT OF NEW SOUTH WALES Inquest: Inquest into the disappearance and suspected death of AK Hearing dates: 5 July 2016 Date of findings: 5 July 2016 Place of findings: State Coroners Court, Glebe Findings of: Magistrate Harriet Grahame, Deputy State Coroner Catchwords: Coronial Law - Missing Person File number: 2015/82065 Representation: Paul Bush – Coronial Law Advocate – Advocate assisting the Coroner Findings AK is dead. He died on or shortly after 7 March 2015 on or nearby the ML property at B, NSW. His death was self-inflicted. The exact manner and cause of his death is otherwise unknown.

Findings required by section 81 (1) Coroners Act 2009 (NSW)

  1. As a result of considering all the documentary evidence and the oral evidence heard at inquest, I am able to make the following findings.

2. AK died on or shortly after 7 March 2015.

  1. It is likely AK died on or nearby the “ML” property at B, NSW.

  2. While it is likely that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, without finding his body we cannot be certain. AK was a careful and well organised man who had documented a clear intention to kill himself.

He had the time and skill to plan his own death. It is established, on the balance of probabilities, that his death was self-inflicted, however the exact method remains unknown.

The detailed reasons for these findings are subject to a non-publication order pursuant to section 75 of the Coroners Act 2009 NSW.

Magistrate Harriet Grahame Deputy State Coroner 5 July 2016.
