FINDING INTO DEATH WITH INQUEST Section 67 of the Coroners Act 2008 Court reference: 924/09 |
In the Coroners Court of Victoria at Melbourne I, IAIN TRELOAR WEST, Deputy State Coroner
having investigated the death of:
Details of deceased: Surname: UNKNOWN First name: BONES
AND having held an inquest in relation to this death on 30th August 2010
at Melbourne
find that the identity of the deceased was BONES UNKNOWN
and death occurred at an unknown time, at an unknown place from an unknown cause in the following circumstances:
-
Detective Sergeant Wayne Woltsche of the Hornicide Squad, attended premises at 1221 Ballan Road, Wyndhamvale, Victoria on the 12th February 2009 and recovered human skeletal remains. The remains, located in a rectangular fish tank, were handed in by Kathleen Blamey who indicated she had located the bones approximately two and a half years ago and had kept them for ornamental purpose. She stated that the bones had been found at the rear of her property but that the site had since been covered by approximately fifteen metres of landfill.
-
The sixteen bones were subsequently examined by Forensic Anthropologist, Dr Christopher Briggs, who determined they were from one individual and that there was no evidence of ante mortum trauma. Ancestry, sex, age, nor time since death, could not be determined. Attempts to extract DNA for subsequent profiling proved unsuccessful.
-
On the evidence before me, I can’t identify the deceased, the cause of death, the time, nor place of death.
