AI-generated summary

Dianne Rose Guthrie, a 38-year-old woman with intellectual disability secondary to childhood head injury and myotonic dystrophy, died at a residential disability facility. She was found unresponsive on 5 March 2009 and resuscitation was unsuccessful. Autopsy revealed no significant natural disease macroscopically, with negative toxicology. The cause of death was deemed unascertained but likely natural. She had been observed to possibly have a cold the evening before death but did not complain of feeling unwell. Clinical lessons include the importance of recognising atypical presentations of serious illness in patients with intellectual disability and myotonic dystrophy who may not report symptoms typically. Earlier medical evaluation of respiratory symptoms, even mild ones, in high-risk patients with muscle disorders might have altered outcomes.

He reported that he told her to get back into bed which she did. At approximately 9am she was located unresponsive and attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

  1. An autopsy conducted by Dr David Ranson, a Senior Forensic Pathologist and Assistant Director of the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine.
