FORM 37 Rule 60(1)

FINDING INTO DEATH WITH INQUEST Section 67 of the Coroners Act 2008 Court reference: 4845/08 In the Coroners Court of Victoria at Melbourne I, KIM PARKINSON, Coroner having investigated the death of:

Details of deceased: Surmame: UNKNOWN REMAINS

AND having held an inquest on 30 March, 2011, at Melbourne

  1. An inquest was conducted by Coroner Wilmoth in case Numbers 1466 of 1990 and 173 of 1989 and a finding made on 10 March 1992 as to the death of Ms Cindy Ward and the circumstances of the death. The finding was made on the basis of circumstantial evidence including forensic odontologist reporting and reconstruction of a facial profile in relation to remains which had been located at Mt Disappointment in Victoria. The purpose of this proceeding is to reconcile further remains which have been located and identified as being those of Ms Ward with the original inquest finding made by the Coroner. ,

  2. On 27 October 2008 investigators locatéd human remains being the mid shaft of a radius in the Mount Disappointment State Forest in Victoria. Those remains are the subject of case file number 4845 of 2008. Those remains were forwarded for DNA examination and a scientific report satisfies me that they are the remains of Ms Cindy Ward.

3, File Number 1197 of 2010 is an administrative file and does not relate to additional remains and requires no further action.

4, I order that a copy of this finding be placed on each of the files and that the current files be closed and the archived files be returned to the public archives.
