ta. Acute myocardial infarction

in the following circumstances:

  1. Constantinos Retsas, aged 60 years, was a client of the Department of Human Services and was residing at a community residential unit in Taylors Lake at the time of his death, He suffered intellectual disability and autism and had been in care since he was 15 years of age. Mr Retsas’ health was generally good, however, the day before his death he had attended his local doctor, who prescribed medication for a chest infection.

2, On the Ist June 2010 at approximately 4:50 pm, Mr Retsas left the dining table and went to his bedroom. Shortly thereafter staff were alerted by another client to check on him, and in doing so, found him collapsed on his side in the doorway of his bedroom. Despite immediately requesting ambulance attendance and performing cardio pulmonary resuscitaion pending their attival, Mr Retsas could not be revived.

  1. On the 7th June 2010, an autopsy examination was performed by Forensic Pathologist,

Dr Matthew Lynch, who ‘determined the death was die to an acute myocardial infarction, with clear evidence of thrombosis of the left anterior descending coronary artery.

COMMENT: Pursuant to section 67(3) of the Coroners Act 2008, I make the following comment connected with the death.

The evidence satisifies me that Constantine Retsas died from natural causes with there being no

evidence to suggest that his management was other than within the normal parameters of reasonable health care practise.
