I, JANE HENDTLASS, Coroner having investigated the death of DANIEL HOURIGAN AND having held an inquest in relation to this death on 15 February, 2012 at Melbourne find that the identity of the deceased was DANIEL MICHAEL HOURIGAN and the death occurred on 7 May 2011 at Broadmeadows Health Service Palliative Care Unit from: la. METASTATIC RENAL CELL CARCINOMA in the following circumstances:

  1. Daniel Michael Hourigan was 72 years old when he died, He lived in Department of Human Services accommodation at 30 Bicknell Court in Broadmeadows.

  2. Mr Hourigan’s medical history included intellectual disability caused by congenital rubella and renal cell carcinoma, which was diagnosed in 2009. This had metastasised to his brain, bone, lungs and

adrenal glands.

3, On 29 April 2011, Mr Hourigan was admitted to palliative care at Broadmeadows Health Service.

4, On 7 May 2011, Daniel Hourigan died.

  1. The forensic pathologist who inspected the body, medical records and the post mortem CT scans formed the opinion that a reasonable cause of death in the circumstances could be expressed as

metastatic renal cell carcinoma.

  1. Accordingly, I find that Daniel Hourigan died from metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
