I, Coroner K. M. W. Parkinson having investigated the death of

UNKNOWN REMAINS COMPRISING HUMAN FEMUR LOCATED AT CROYDON HILLS

AND having held an inquest in relation to this death on 5 December 2013 at Melbourne

FIND that the identity of the deceased is unknown

THAT the death occurred at an unknown date

AT an unknown location

FROM:

Unknown cause

In the following circumstances:

  1. On 8 May 2010, Mr Robert Brincat of Croydon Hills attended at Croydon Police station and produced remains comprising a human femur which he had located partially buried in his

garden.

  1. An examination was undertaken by Forensic Anthropologist Dr Soren Blau who reported that the bone is a human right femur of a young adult and likely female. Dr Blau was unable

to comment upon age, or ancestry of the remains nor the exact age of the remains.

  1. Mitochondrial DNA samples were obtained and comparison of the samples with the national

missing persons database and with other samples did not result in identification.

  1. Iam unable to find identification, date of death, location or cause of death.

  2. Should any new facts or circumstances arise, application may be made for this finding to be

re-opened.

  1. I note that DNA samples have been obtained and will be retained for any future possible

identification.

  1. Acopy of this finding is directed to be placed on the file and provided to the Investigating

Member of Victoria Police.

  1. I authorise the release of the remains to the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine Coronial Admissions And Enquiries unit for burial to be arranged in accordance with the

usual procedures of the Coroners Court.
